More than 1,300 Haj pilgrims died due to extreme heat in Saudi Arabia

More than 1,300 people died while performing this year's Haj's pilgrimage due to extreme heat. Saudi officials say most of the fatalities were among those not authorised to make the pilgrimage. As such, they had no access to amenities such as air-conditioned tents and walked “long distances under direct sunlight without adequate shelter or comfort".
