More than 100,000 families in Albay evacuated ahead of typhoon | ABS CBN News

Almost all of Albay's vulnerable population have evacuated, according to Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) officer Dante Baclao. This translates to 363,261 individuals or more than 102,000 families. "Naghihintay na lang po kay Pepito. Naka-ready na man po in whatever eventuality," Baclao said. (We're just waiting for Pepito. We are ready for any eventuality.) Newly-proclaimed Legazpi Mayor Alfredo Garbin said they are aiming for zero casualty. "Ginawa natin ang lahat para yung pagdating ng bagyong Pepito ay kaya natin. Not just we anticipate the typhoon but we also yung pwedeng magkaroon ng casualty. But we are aiming for zero casualty," he said. (We have done everything so we can survive the typhoon. We are preparing not just for the typhoon but with the casualties it might bring. We are aiming for zero casualty.) On Saturday, families did last-minute preparations in fortifying their homes, securing roofs and their windows. Big waves have battered the northeastern part of Albay, particularly Tiwi and Malinao. Fishermen have secured their boats through the help of police. "Takot kami kasi yung timing, kabilugan ng buwan ngayon, malaki ang tubig. Ganito saming mandaragat, bawal samin na lumabas na malakas ang hangin. Di bale mangutang kami, basta di kami ma disgrasya," said Rosalino Abion, a fisherman. (We are afraid because of the timing, it's full moon. Water level is high. At this point, we're not allowed to fish anymore. We'd rather borrow money as long as we do not risk our lives into accidents.)
