More than 35,000 people crossed the Channel this year according to latest figures
Home Office figures show that more than 35,000 people have make the crossing into the UK so far this year, a 20% increase from 2023. The borders minister, Dame Angela Eagle, has told Sky News the government won't put a timeline on cutting the number of small boat crossings. But those working with people who have crossed on small boats have criticised plans to impose targets saying they're "not helpful" and if figures aren't reached, "people lose trust".
