More weapons needed before lowering draft age, says Ukraine's Zelenskiy
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Tuesday (January 14) that partner countries needed to supply more weapons before Ukraine could consider lowering its draft age. He made the comment at a press briefing with German defence minister Boris Pistorius in Kyiv. Mike Waltz, the incoming national security advisor for president-elect Donald Trump, said on Sunday (January 12) in an interview with ABC that Ukraine should consider lowering its mobilisation age to 18. Zelenskiy lowered the draft age to 25 from 27 in April 2024 and signed off on an overhaul of the mobilisation process that entered force in May. Pistorius told Zelenskiy that his government was working on solving a "fiscal problem" in regards to another aid package of 3 billion Euros for Ukraine. He added that Germany had ordered 54 new 155 wheeled howitzers for Ukraine and that he hoped would arrive "as soon as possible." (Production: Sergiy Karazy, Felix Hoske)
