Morning in Lebanon after deadly pager blasts across the country | ABS-CBN News

Some Lebanese citizens voiced their shock, while others said they were not surprised on Wednesday (September 18) morning, a day after deadly pager detonations across Lebanon killed nine people and wounded nearly 3,000 others. A senior Lebanese security source and another source told Reuters that Israel's Mossad spy agency planted explosives inside 5,000 pagers imported by Lebanese group Hezbollah months before Tuesday's (September 17) detonations. “No one could have thought that pagers could explode like that,” said Hassan Cheaitani, a Lebanese citizen in Beirut. Haydar Hassan Jaafar, another citizen who lives abroad, said that he was not surprised with what happened. "The word war – ‘W.A.R.’ - is synonymous with dirty. So, whether they retaliate or they don't retaliate, we are already in a war." Jaafar said. Iran-backed Hezbollah has vowed to retaliate against Israel, whose military declined to comment on the blasts. Hezbollah said in a statement on Wednesday that "the resistance will continue today, like any other day, its operations to support Gaza, its people and its resistance which is a separate path from the harsh punishment that the criminal enemy (Israel) should await in response to Tuesday's massacre."
