MOU to bring research opportunities

The University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights have signed a memorandum of understanding which will generate improved capacity building, joint research opportunities, and other areas of mutual benefit. Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the Cave Hill Campus, Professor Clive Landis and President of the court, Judge Nancy Hernandez-Lopez agreed to an initial three-year period for the framework cooperation agreement. Under the agreement, there will be yearly professional practicum programmes for both staff and graduates of the Cave Hill Campus and student internships with the court. Additionally, President Lopez disclosed the court is offering a scholarship for one Caribbean person to undergo a three-month legal training programme, as a way to foster greater diversity and inclusion as part of an academic exchange between both institutions. Professor Landis says this signing cements the relationship and demonstrates the commitment and collaboration in the furtherance of human rights. The MOU was signed at the Sagicor School of Business, in parallel to the 166th regular session of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights being held at the Cave Hill Campus.
