MOU To Focus On East Port Of Spain Youth
The Ministry of Youth Development and National Service has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the East Port of Spain Company. According to Minister of Youth Development and National Service, Foster Cummings, the aim of the MOU is to ensure that young people can fully access the programmes being offered by the Ministry. "Hence the reason for this MOU today, because we think that collaboration will allow us to penetrate some of these communities and bring to the young people in those communities, some of the development programmes that you are very familiar with that the Ministry of Youth Development has been rolling out." Minister Cummings said the Ministry will use existing personnel at the East Port of Spain Company to engage with these young people. "But with a more laser and targeted focus on some of these communities that are commonly referred to as at-risk areas where there are border issues and sometimes persons from one community may not be able to leave to go to another community." Chairman of the East Port of Spain Company, Hillan Morean, said the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development was instrumental in working out the details of the MOU. "I see opportunities like today, this MOU signing, because of not only the collaboration, as PS just mentioned and the sharing of information that will make things better, but the fact that we can work together with one of the most engaging, hardworking Ministries." Minister Cummings said January 2025 would see the roll-out of some of the programmes for youth in Laventille, Sea Lots, Morvant, and Belmont.
