Mozambique protests: President calls for unity in ‘challenging times’
Protests against last month’s disputed election results in Mozambique have continued for over four weeks. President Filipe Nyusi has called for unity among presidential candidates to find a solution. Though demonstrations have slowed, anger persists due to high unemployment, poverty, failing services, and corruption allegations. Notably, officials are accused of accepting bribes for maritime contracts, worsening the debt crisis. Investigative journalist Luis Nhanacote highlighted the corruption trial of former finance minister Manuel Chang. Despite ongoing public anger, protests are losing momentum as opposition leader Venâncio Mondlane has left the country, and final election results are delayed.
