My name is Najwa and I survived a year of Israel's genocide in Gaza | Close Up

08/10/24
Al Jazeera English

10-year-old Najwa has survived a year of war and displacement. Al Jazeera first met the brave Palestinian girl as she was sheltering in a tent in Rafah, after Israel’s assault on Gaza forced her family to flee their home in Khan Younis. Now, six months on, she’s returned to find her city in ruins. Her home had been ransacked but her four walls remained largely intact. Still, her family faces constant upheaval as Israeli forces impose seemingly endless evacuation orders. In this Close Up documentary, Najwa walks through the streets she once knew, reflecting on the memories of a life that will never be the same. Despite the uncertainty, she perseveres with love for her parents, younger sisters and displaced grandparents. Najwa's experience is a poignant story of resilience amid a genocide.
