NASA Prepares for Apophis Close Encounter in 2029 | WION Podcast
In 2029, the Apophis asteroid, also known as the 'God of Destruction,' will make a historically close approach to Earth, passing just 30,000 miles away. This 1,000-foot-wide asteroid will be visible to the naked eye and offers an incredible opportunity for scientific study. NASA’s OSIRIS-APEX spacecraft will be in position to study Apophis closely, while the NEAlight project, involving small satellites from Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, will collect vital data to help us better understand the asteroid and develop future planetary defense strategies. Although Apophis is no longer considered a collision threat, this close pass will provide insights into the solar system’s history, as the asteroid has remained largely unchanged for over 4.6 billion years. #nasa #space #wionpodcast About Channel: WION The World is One News examines global issues with in-depth analysis.
