Nation Sports: Barbados Tennis team earns promotion

A historic moment for Barbados women’s tennis team as they gained promotion into the Americas Group ll of the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup competition. After contesting four unbeaten matches in Pool A of the group stages and advancing into the playoff against El Salvador, Barbados pulled off a hard fought 2-1 victory at the National Racquet Centre in Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday and produced their greatest performance to date since competing in the Billie Jean Cup from its inception in 1993. The four-member team comprising national top seed Gabrielle Leslie, Hannah Chambers, Serena Bryan and Cherise Slocombe all showed tremendous resilience as they fought consistently and won against Antigua and Barbuda (3-0), Jamaica (2-1), Bahamas (3-0) and Trinidad and Tobago (2-1) in the group stages.
