Nation Update: Goddard ends 25 years of service
Newspaper vendor Margot Goddard has finally hung up her saleswoman hat. For the past 25 years – half of the publisher’s lifespan – she has sold copies of the Nation newspaper. Those who collected their daily paper each morning on the highway next to the Goddard building in Haggatt Hall, St Michael, would remember the newspaper vendor who was ever present, no matter the weather. For those years of steadfast determination and commitment, Margot was awarded in recognition of her long-standing service at the recent Nation Vendors Awards. “I appreciated it very much, but I’m tired, and also tired of getting out my bed,” Margot said laughing. Recently retired and enjoying every minute of it, Margot recalled the nightly travels to Fontabelle, St Michael, her early starts at 5 a.m., and even one eventful moment when she was robbed and her car stolen while working.
