National Day message: PM Lawrence Wong says govt to redouble efforts to keep cost of living stable
The government will redouble efforts to keep the cost of living stable for Singaporeans, said Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in his first National Day message. In a video address broadcast on Thursday (Aug 8), PM Wong said the government will continue to cushion the impact of inflation especially on lower- and middle-income Singaporeans through support measures like CDC vouchers, cash payouts and utilities rebates. He noted that many are concerned about housing affordability. "We are determined to keep public housing in Singapore accessible, affordable and fair for all," he said. Mr Wong also said Singapore will forge new opportunities for its people and that it will strengthen its system of social support. "In the last two Budgets, we made several moves to uplift lower-wage workers, support vulnerable families and boost retirement adequacy. We have also embarked on nationwide initiatives like Healthier SG and Age Well SG to take better care of our seniors. We intend to do more," he said, adding that he will share more at the National Day Rally on Aug 18.
