A recommendation to plug wireless communications gaps that prevented access to 911 service along Highway 16, also known as the Highway of Tears, has become a reality. The route is notorious for the number of Indigenous women and girls who went missing or have been found murdered along it. Rogers Communications, with funding support from the federal and provincial governments, has completed construction and turned on nine of 11 new cellphone towers being built between Prince Rupert and Prince George.
