New Surrey Village Community Centre Promises Growth and Opportunity
Community Centres serve as hubs to foster positive engagement within communities. This, from Minister of Sport of Community Development, Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis. With this in mind, the Ministry opened yet another Community Centre, this time in Surrey Village, Lopinot. After years of complaining about the lack of an improved Community Centre in Surrey Village, Minister of Sport and Community Development, Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis, said the community can boast about their new facility. "We built these Community Centres for you, the people, to come, to meet, to gather, to share, to bond, to discuss matters of State, to influence the process as to how your community is governed, to ensure that others have access to the Community Centre. And we say they are hubs for development because you were supposed to make this place a place for development, where you take into consideration everybody." Minister Cudjoe-Lewis said more of the Ministry of Sport and Community Development's programmes can be brought to the villagers. "The Government, this building could only take you this far. At the end of the day, it rests on you, it rests on you to set up an order in your family, in your household, in your community, in your country. At the end of the day, it rests on you and me." Member of Parliament for Lopinot/Bon Air West, Minister of Public Utilities, Marvin Gonzales, urged those in the community to make use of their space wisely. "Give our young people an opportunity to learn something. Equip them with a skill. Come here and discuss the issues, meet with your Member of Parliament, meet with your member of council to discuss the challenges facing your community, come up with solutions, learn crafts, equip yourself with a skill to build your community and to build your family." He also assured that other improvements for the community are underway. "I know how bad the road is and we intend to fix the road in the same way that we improve the water supply in Lopinot and La Pastora and by the way, in the next two months, the famous Lopinot Historical Site will once again return to its full glory." Minister Cudjoe-Lewis said Community Centres assist Government to pursue and fulfill their mandate to bring services of the Government closer to the public. https://youtu.be/c6HWWcMh7-Q After years of complaining about the lack of an improved Community Centre in Surrey Village, Minister of Sport and Community Development, Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis, said the community can boast about their new facility.
