Britain's newly-appointed Foreign Minister David Lammy welcomed his Canadian counterpart Mélanie Joly in London on Monday, his first official visitor since taking up the role after his Labour Party swept to victory in the country’s general election last week. Lammy, 51, said the visit "meant the world" to him and wished for the U.K. and Canada to “have the closest of relationships.” Lammy also said that he has known Canada all of his life, it's a country he loves, and that he has family in Canada. “Congratulations to you, to the prime minister, to the entire team. We've been following from the other side of the ocean," said Joly, 45. “Now, we have lots to do together… There's so many different security crises happening in the world right now.” Lammy travelled extensively before the election and is seeking to reset Britain's foreign policy after 14 years of Conservative Party government. He has already paid visits to Germany, Poland and Sweden since Thursday's election.
