New warnings issued as UK hit by snow and ice - with 'Arctic air' on the way

Heavy snowfall and icy rain have hit the UK over the weekend, and more weather warnings are in place for the coming days as forecasters predict a fresh blast of 'Arctic air'. Major motorways were brought to a near-standstill as up to 17cm of snow covered parts of Yorkshire, while airports including Manchester, Liverpool John Lennon, and Leeds Bradford all experienced severe disruption, with many flights cancelled. Meanwhile, Liverpool's tie against Manchester United was briefly thrown into doubt - but the early evening kick-off was eventually approved, and fans made their way through the slush and into the gates of Anfield, despite the cold.
