New Zealand’s Coalition government has promised to be tough on crime, since coming to power in October. A key election promise was to recruit 500 additional frontline officers in two years. Government briefing documents obtained by Sky News revealed New Zealand police can only recruit to replace attrition but would not be able to achieve significant growth. Reportedly, the country's police force needs 500 graduates per year to maintain numbers. “A big part of what we’ve promised New Zealanders, we are restoring law and order in this country,” said New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.
