The municipality of Bethlehem announced on Saturday that Christmas this year would be limited to prayer and religious ceremonies as a "rejection to the injustices" against the Palestinian people. “This is a statement of our rejection to the injustices inflicted on our people in Gaza and all of Palestine and the massacres they endure. While we live in pain, we cling to hope, affirming that the true essence of Christmas lies not in appearances or festivities but in worship and prayer,” Bethlehem mayor Anton Salman said. Pilgrims from around the world used to fill the square outside the 4th-century Church of the Nativity, the site believed to be Jesus’ birthplace, during the Christmas season. Meanwhile, in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza strip, an Israeli airstrike killed at least eight Palestinians in an apartment on Friday, according to medics. Paramedic Abed Ghurab described the victims as mostly “children and body remains."
