New measures have been proposed to address severe noise disputes among neighbours. These include making mediation mandatory and deploying noise sensors. A Community Relations Unit will be piloted in Tampines for a year. The group will consist of 15 officers who have experience in law enforcement and basic mediation. They will be able to deploy noise sensors when needed, and can also take statements from residents, enter homes to gather evidence with consent, and issue a direction for residents to attend mediation. They also have the power to give orders to individuals to stop noise nuisance or remove nuisance-causing objects. Claudia Lim reports.
