Experts say the heavy sentence acts as a warning to North Korean residents about the risks of consuming South Korean content. North Korea has imposed tough sentences on anyone caught watching South Korean entertainment or copying the way South Koreans speak. This new "anti-reactionary thought" law was imposed in 2020.
