Gritos de desesperación sonaban de madrugada en un edificio de Villajoyosa, en Alicante. El fuego iluminaba todo el interior de la vivienda de la planta once y dentro fallecían un niño de 5 años junto a su padre y su abuela. Ciento veinte vecinos de las plantas inferiores eran desalojados por precaución. Los de las plantas superiores quedaban confinados en sus casas ya que el humo había invadido los espacios comunes del inmueble. Los materiales de la estructura, fundamentalmente hormigón y ladrillo, impidieron que el fuego se propagara y, en poco más de una hora, quedaba controlado. En la vivienda afectada encuentran la causa del origen de las llamas, una sobrecarga en el enchufe del salón, según aseguraba Carlos Mazón, presidente de la Generalitat Valenciana.
