NYE celebrations to go ahead after NSW rail unions backed down on major industrial action
Sydney’s New Year’s Eve celebrations will be able to go ahead as planned after the NSW government managed to stave off the threat of further industrial action by the rail unions. Sydney Trains and prominent hospitality businesses have now withdrawn their application against the Rail, Tram and Bus Union in the Fair Work Commission because an agreement has been reached. Part of the agreement is that the union will not carry out any new industrial action that poses a threat to services on New Year’s Eve and all industrial action will be conducted in a manner which ensures the safety of workers, passengers, as well as members of the public. This means train services will go ahead in Sydney on New Year’s Eve without as much disruption which had been planned by the union.
