Barbadians can still use their old laminated ID cards after tomorrow, January 31. Minister of Industry, Innovation, Science and Technology Marsha Caddle says they will remain valid. The old ID cards however as they begin to peel and are no longer accepted will have to be replaced. Minister Caddle, while delivering a Ministerial Statement in Parliament, revealed there's been an overwhelming uptake of the Trident ID by citizens. As of January 26, some 243,320 people were registered, compared to a resident population of 269,090. She says this overwhelming uptake means Government need not act as an irritant by insisting on the mandatory adoption of the Trident ID and disenfranchise those in need of Government services. Ms. Caddle says as of February 1, 2024, the Electoral and Boundaries Commission returns to normal operations and regular registration process. She says EBC will now move to the stage of validating the addresses of those who have pre-registered.
