Ontario's York Region sees 400% increase in carjackings since 2019, police reveal

North of Toronto, York Regional Police shared new details on Tuesday regarding a disturbing rise in carjackings and violent crimes in the Ontario region. "The region has seen a 92% increase in shootings, a total of 46 since January of this year, and we've also seen a 106% increase in carjacking," Chief Jim MacSween said. As Jaden Lee Lincoln explains, the police chief is attributing the rise in gun violence and carjackings to organized crimes, illegal gun smuggling and ongoing tow truck disputes.
