The Opposition Democratic Labour Party has withheld its support for the Notaries Public Bill 2024. Senator Tricia Watson announced the stance as she again raised her concern over the time given for notice of bills. She told the Upper House that passing legislation is no joke as she called for seriousness in the Senate. Senator Watson and her opposition counterpart Ryan Walters indicated they would play no further part in today's Debate. It was at this point the Opposition Senators were seen packing up. Their seats were noticeably vacant by the end of the next Speaker's presentation. This in turn prompted a response from Deputy President of the Senate, Her Honour Elizabeth Thompson. She's criticised their decision to walk out of the chamber. She notes it's the Opposition's responsibility to use the resources available to it as a political party, to prepare.
