Shadow Housing Minister Michael Sukkar has slammed the Albanese government for its “outrageous” action of “circumventing process” on visas. Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has argued Prime Minister Albanese misled parliament by quoting selectively from the ABC’s interview with ASIO Director-General Mike Burgess last week in terms of security checks on the Palestinians who came here. “We are circumventing proper process to ensure the integrity of our migration system and ultimately to ensure the safety of Australians by having an expedited process that we know for a fact means some people have arrived here with no face-to-face checks,” Mr Sukkar told Sky News Australia. “This idea that you can bring somebody in on a visa in 24 hours and then just to glibly say we ran through the same process that that 12-month process took for the Coalition is outrageous.”
