Over 36,000 migrants crossed the English Channel in 2024
Provisional government figures show that a total of 36,816 migrants crossed the English Channel in 2024, up 25% on 2023. It's the second highest number of people successfully making the crossing since records began in 2018. A Home Office spokesperson has said that they "will stop at nothing to dismantle" people smuggling gangs.
