‘Over the top and out of touch’: Monash University farewell party for vice-chancellor criticised

Sky News host Chris Kenny has criticised Monash University after it spent more than $127,000 on a lavish farewell for its outgoing vice-chancellor, Professor Margaret Gardner, who is now the governor of Victoria. The party in the National Gallery of Victoria's Great Hall cost $127,134, according to documents released to the National Tertiary Education Union. Mr Kenny labelled the lavish event as “out of touch”. “It’s just indulgence, over the top and out of touch. “It’s just a disgrace; we're in a cost of living crisis, and that’s what they're doing with our money.”
