Overwhelming support for introduction of octagonal warning labels
A new study has found Barbadians overwhelmingly support the introduction of octagonal warning labels. Mass Media Campaigns Officer with the Childhood Obesity Prevention Campaign Khrystal Walcott made the announcement during a press conference today. It follows another study done in 2022, which showed 75% of Barbadians support the introduction of front-of-package warning labels. However, there had been skepticism from some quarters that the data did not specifically show support for octagonal labels. Meanwhile, Co-chair of the Barbados Childhood Obesity Prevention Coalition, Professor Anne St. John, has raised concerns about the Vending Bill which has not yet been proclaimed. The Bill requires vendors to be registered and compliant with the Ministry of Health. Professor St. John suggests the vending done right outside schools presents a major challenge to the success of the School Nutrition Policy.
