At least one police officer was killed and dozens of people injured in Pakistan on Monday, as supporters of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan clashed with security forces outside the capital Islamabad, a government minister and Khan's party said. Highways were blocked as supporters of Khan, led by members of his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, approached the city with demands for his release. “We're determined to overcome their (the current government’s) stubbornness and ego, which seeks to keep our people subjugated and enslaved,” said local PTI member Ifran Saleem. In the country’s capital, which was put under a security lockdown since Sunday ahead of the protests, local residents had mixed reactions towards the protesters. Some defended their right to demonstrate if they were executed peacefully, while others accused the regularly-occurring protests of “destroying” economic stability.
