PETA stages protest, stops papal convoy | ABS-CBN News

Protesters from the Italian branch of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) on Sunday (December 8) staged a protest attempting to stop the papal convoy reaching the Spanish Steps. The white car carrying Pope Francis was driving along a street leading to Rome's Piazza di Spagna when some protesters jumped off the fence and blocked the convoy, holding banners against bullfighting. After security removed the protesters from the street, Francis paid homage to the statue of the Virgin Mary, marking the Catholic feast of the Immaculate Conception.
