Peter Dutton congratulates new Taiwan president

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has offered his congratulations to the new Taiwan president following the country’s election overnight. Taiwan’s vice president Lai Ching-Te has been elected as the nation’s new president. “We welcome and congratulate the incoming president,” Mr Dutton said during a media conference on Sunday. “Obviously an experienced vice president, and particularly in a troubling time it’s important that democracies are able to implement the outcome of the will of the people. “That’s what’s happened in Taiwan, and we welcome that outcome.”
