Former Labor senator Stephen Conroy says Opposition leader Peter Dutton is “gambling on a policy” that is “electorally risky” and could financially be a disaster with his push for nuclear energy. Opposition Leader Peter Dutton, this morning, confirmed the party was interested in replacing retiring coal plants with nuclear reactors. “They have to go big or go home, so that’s what Dutton appears to be doing,” Mr Conroy told Sky News Australia. “The problem he’s got is he’s gambling on a policy that is electorally risky, it’s financially a disaster, and it won’t deliver what he promises. “These aren’t easy things to build, and the economics in 2035 with all the renewables coming into the sector are just not going to work for it.”
