As Uganda celebrates 62 years of independence, the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) marks 61 years since it first went on air. Originally known as Uganda Broadcasting Service, UBC was launched on 8th October 1963, to complement Radio Uganda, which had been operating since April 1954. This followed the realization by Uganda's new leaders that both radio and television were essential tools for mobilizing and informing the masses in the post-independence era.
