Plan to de-colonise education system

The Ministry of Education has outlined plans to de-colonise the education system. Chief Education Officer, Dr. Ramona Archer-Bradshaw says there has still been a heavy legacy of colonialism, even though some progress has been made since emancipation to advance the education of the black population. Dr. Archer-Bradshaw says this deeply influenced educational structures, curricula and values. She pointed to partnerships with the Division of Culture and National Cultural Foundation as evidence the Ministry has been working to include heritage and cultural studies as parts of the curricula. Meanwhile, Professor Christopher Emdin from the Gordon Institute for Advanced Study, Teachers Training College, Columbia University, believes what needs to be de-colonised is schooling.
