Plane crashes into mobile home community, kills 3 in Florida
A small plane crashed into several mobile homes in Clearwater, Florida on Thursday evening, resulting in the death of the pilot and two residents on the ground. The Clearwater Fire and Rescue Department responded to calls about a “structural fire” around 7:15 p.m. and extinguished a fire in roughly half an hour. Emergency services searched the impacted mobile homes for hours in search of victims either on board the plane or inside one of the homes. Three of the homes were cleared safely, with just one minor injury reported. Before crashing, the pilot had reportedly radioed in a Mayday distress call, according to Police Chief Scott Ehler. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
