Planes take off and land as airstrike smoke engulfs Beirut airport at sunset

As the sun began to set on Beirut, planes were seen landing and taking off from the airport. Weak plumes of smoke could also be seen trailing into the sky, as Israel launched several strikes on the city earlier in the day. Nations worldwide have begun evacuating citizens from Lebanon after a sharp escalation in the conflict between Israel and Iran-backed Lebanese armed movement Hezbollah. People are also fleeing on their own. Lebanon's government says more than 2,000 people have been killed since the start of the Israeli attacks on Lebanon in the last year.
