Shadow Climate Change and Energy Minister Ted O’Brien has criticised Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for failing to mention the United States and European Union likely “won’t achieve” their 2030 targets. Opposition leader Peter Dutton says he will not quit the Paris Accord or give up on net zero. It is understood Mr Dutton's recent dismissal of the 2030 climate target was due to the goal being unachievable. “I did see the prime minister this morning try to suggest that Australia’s going to be kicked out of the Paris Agreement if it doesn’t meet its 2030 targets,” Mr O’Brien told Sky News Australia. “What he failed to say was the United States is also looking like they won’t achieve their 2030 targets, nor will the European Union. “I think it’s going to be big news in Washington that the Australian Prime Minister is announcing that suddenly the Biden administration is looking down the barrel of being booted from Paris.”
