PM to receive Ewald von Kleist Award
Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley along with the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Kerry have copped this year's Ewald von Kleist Award for their fight against climate change and its security implications. The award will be presented on saturday. Ewald von Kleist was the founder and defining personality of the Munich Security Conference. Through the award, the Munich Security Conference has been honouring leading personalities in security politics who have made an outstanding contribution to international understanding and conflict resolution since the award's inception in 2009. Ms. Mottley expressed appreciation for the recognition. Ms. Mottley was among the panel for a panel discussion at the ongoing Munich Security Conference in Germany titled 'Growing the Pie: A Global Order That Works for Everyone'. She used the forum to shine the spotlight on the increasing debt of developing countries have taken on due to the pandemic and the impact of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Ms. Mottley says new metrics are required to help countries manage these risks.
