Speaking in Nanaimo, B.C., on Wednesday, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre reacted to the news of the New Democrats pulling their support from the supply-and-confidence agreement with the Liberal government. “Sellout Singh has pulled a stunt,” Poilievre said. “If you're serious about ending your costly carbon tax coalition with Trudeau, then commit today to voting for a carbon tax election at the earliest confidence vote in the House of Commons.” “Right now we don't have a calendar to indicate when we can put forward a motion. But the NDP will have to choose,” Poilievre added. Earlier in the day, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh announced that his party was ending the supply-and-confidence deal with the Liberals that helped keep the minority government in power. Singh and Trudeau reached the agreement in March 2022, committing the Liberals to implement several NDP priorities in exchange for the NDP caucus supporting the Liberals on key votes.
