Poilievre, Conservative MPs demand Trudeau fire Boissonnault for Indigenous identity claims

Pierre Poilievre called for Employment Minister Randy Boissonnault to lose his job during question period in the House of Commons on Monday over alleged false claims of Indigenous identity. Several other Conservative MPs echoed Poilievre's demands. Boissonnault has faced mass scrutiny after it was revealed a business that he co-owned, Global Health Imports (GHI), unsuccessfully bid on two federal contracts while identifying itself as Indigenous and Aboriginal-owned, despite that not being the truth. The Liberal MP said he “never claimed Indigenous status,” adding that his former business partner, Stephen Anderson, had full responsibility for the bids — in which he claims he did not consent to Anderson making any claims about his heritage. Though Boissonnault has apologized after shifting claims of his identity, he faced further condemnation from the Conservative party Monday, as his former company reportedly shared a mailbox with a woman who was linked to two cocaine busts. On several occasions, Boissonnault said “it is fact” that he has had “no dealings” with the woman linked to the alleged drug busts. “It's unbelievable that with the cocaine connections… those Liberals want to allow him to continue to be in cabinet. He said that he was Indigenous to try and steal contracts from individuals who are Indigenous, Conservative MP Michael Barrett said. “If he won't resign, why won't this Prime Minister [Justin Trudeau] fire that fraudster?“ he added.
