Revisiting a debate from last week in the Canadian House of Commons, Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre and members of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s cabinet called each another “wacko” after tensions — sparked by Poilievre calling for the Liberals to remove their “carbon tax” — arose. “Last week, the health minister went into a wacko rant, accusing parents taking their kids on a road trip… [of] causing the whole world to burn,” Poilievre said in his opening remarks. In his response, Health Minister Mark Holland defended the Liberals’ carbon pricing initiative and rebate, as well as their stance on climate change. He also suggested that the Conservative solution would require Canadians to drive at least 44,000 km in distance, to see any savings. “His wacko math gets even worse. He’s talking about vacations of 44,000 km. Those are the vacations his boss [Trudeau] takes in a tax-payer-funded, fuel-guzzling private jet,” Poilievre quipped. With the floor turned to the Environment and Climate Change Minister, Steven Guilbeault echoes Holland’s statement, saying the Liberals had “underestimated the wacko math of the Conservative Party of Canada.” “If this particular minister had his way, Canadians wouldn’t even be allowed to drive to the grocery store, because he wants to abolish roads,” Poilievre joked of Guilbeault, later poking fun at his days as a former climate activist.
