Police association supports early retirement
The Hierarchy of the Barbados Police Association is in full support of Government instituting a new retirement age. Word of this from President Inspector Wendley Carter. In another section of the media, Attorney General Dale Marshall stated Government was considering allowing officers of the Barbados Police Service to retire before the national retirement age of 67. Inspector Carter explains before it became mandatory for officers to retire at 67, officers were allowed to retire at 55. However, they would have had to accept a reduced pension. Inspector Carter also expressed concerns over a vast exit of officers should the new age become a reality. He says TBPS will now have to ensure succession planning to ensure that critical areas within the law enforcement agency are not left empty. Inspector Carter says recruitment will also need to play a critical part going forward, and a reservist system similar to that of the Barbados Defence Force will work.
