Police attend fewer than a quarter of shoplifting incidents, Sky News investigation reveals
Exclusive Sky News data shows there's been a dramatic drop in the number of shoplifting incidents attended by police forces across the UK . In 2016, 52% of incidents were attended immediately by police, compared to just 22% in 2023. A clear trend of declining attendance rates. Policing minister Dame Diana Johnson says this data "concerns" her and calls for forces "to do far more".
