Polls reveal strong international backing for Australia's under-16s social media ban
International polling shows strong support for Australia's decision to ban social media for children under the age of 16. Surveys from The Sun and Telegraph in the UK reveal more than 65 per cent of voters are in favour of similar measures being implemented in Britain. A Swiss survey also found that 78 per cent of respondents there would get behind social media age restrictions. The world-first legislation will mean kids under the age of 16 are set to be blocked from accessing popular platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat. The ban, which will take about 12 months to come into effect, was initially raised by the Albanese government over safety fears for children and after kids took their lives from the mental impacts of bullying and extortion.
