POSGH Central Block Commissioned - New Technology To Transform Healthcare Delivery
Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh said the official ceremony for the completion of the Port of Spain General Hospital Central Block is historic in more ways than one. The completion of the Central Block is one of the major milestones of the PNM-led Government - a project which was brought before the Cabinet in 2017. Speaking at the Commissioning Ceremony on Monday, Minister Deyalsingh said the healthcare facility will seamlessly marry technology, a state-of-the-art facility, and top-class healthcare workers. Paediatrics, Surgical, Medical, and Psychiatry Wards will be among the services housed in the new building. The integration of technology and Artificial Intelligence will also become a major aspect of the provision of healthcare at the hospital. X-rays, CT Scans, lab results, and pharmacy will also be integrated into one system. This will be rolled out across the North Central, Eastern, and South West Regional Health Authorities from March 31st, 2025. Minister Deyalsingh explained that this will eliminate one of the major issues both patients and healthcare professionals face: lost records. Adding his views, Chief Executive Officer of the North West Regional Health Authority, Major Anthony Blake, said this facility will enable less paperwork and more patient work. Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley said the provision of quality healthcare has always been at the top of his Government's agenda, which has been evident with the strides taken to ensure that the best medical workers and facilities are in place in Trinidad and Tobago. This is the third of four phases of the opening of the facility. Phase 4 will see the outfitting of equipment, which has been purchased and commissioned. The Port of Spain General Hospital Central Block will be completed in July 2025.
