Post-mortem to be conducted into Qld Labor’s by-election defeat

A post-mortem will be conducted into Queensland Labor’s resounding by-election defeat on the weekend to assess the effectiveness of Premier Steven Miles ahead of the October state election. State Labor MPs are concerned they’ll lose their seats in the state election later this year after LNP’s Darren Zanow won the traditionally safe seat of Ipswich West during Saturday’s by-election. The Miles government managed to retain former premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s seat of Inala. However, in doing so, Queensland Labor suffered a 21 per cent swing. Mr Miles is now under pressure to do more to tackle the state’s youth crime crisis by members of his party ahead of the state election.
