Farmers might see a reduced water rate when the Bridgetown Sewage Treatment Plant is finalised in 2026. Word of this from Project Manager at the Barbados Water Authority Shelley Parris. She says they are working with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Agriculture to determine what the optimal cost will be to provide water at a reduced rate to those in the agricultural sector. However, she made it clear she did not want to give any specifics in relation to costs. Ms. Parris was speaking during a town hall meeting at St. Mary's Church. Meanwhile, National Project Coordinator of the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre Dr. Elon Cadogan says along with the upgrade, there will be an increased capacity from 30,000 to 40,000 customers serviced by the plant.
