An Israeli strike smashed into a building in the southern suburbs of Beirut on Monday, causing a huge explosion and sending smoke billowing into the sky, following a warning issued by the Israeli military on X. Lebanon's Deputy Speaker of Parliament Elias Bou Saab told Reuters on Monday that there were "no serious obstacles" left to beginning the implementation of a U.S.-proposed 60-day truce to end fighting between Israel and Lebanese armed group Hezbollah. Hostilities have intensified in parallel with the diplomatic flurry: Over the weekend, Israel carried out powerful airstrikes, one of which killed at least 29 people in central Beirut - while Iran-backed Hezbollah unleashed one of its biggest rocket salvos yet on Sunday, firing 250 missiles.
